Breakfast at The Baltic - 13/05/11

Tegan and I headed over to the Baltic for breakfast at their ground floor café before wandering around the George Shaw exhibition.  I’ve eaten at Six before, which is the restaurant on the top floor of the Baltic, but I’ve never eaten at the café before. It’s lovely! They serve breakfast, cakes, pastries, sandwiches, salads and burgers. I was intrigued by all their lovely cakes, such as their cinnamon pretzel, but as it was only 10am I thought I should stick to breakfast.
Their prices are very reasonable. Tegan and I both opted for the eggs benedict which was £4.95. I was tempted by the French toast with crispy bacon and maple syrup but thought it would be a bit too sweet. We were going to share some honey vanilla yoghurt with berry compote granola but unfortunately it was unavailable.
Their eggs benedict consisted of two toasted savoury muffins with parma ham placed on top, a poached egg on each and hollandaise sauce drizzled over the top of both. I’ve never had eggs benedict with parma ham before but it really worked as it wasn’t as salty as bacon. The hollandaise sauce wasn’t too rich and the eggs were perfectly poached, the yolk was runny but not overly so.  Two muffins were almost too filling but it set us both up for a day of shopping.
All in all, a yummy breakfast.
